MarkSay — Privacy Policy

MarkSay does not collect, transmit, store, or share any personal data. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting. We receive nothing about you or your documents.
MarkSay is not a no-network app, and this page says exactly where the network can be involved — because a privacy policy that overclaims is worth nothing. Every case below is off by default, or something you started.
- Your documents stay yours. They are ordinary Markdown files in the locations you choose. MarkSay does not copy, index, upload, or sync them anywhere.
- Agent Access is off until you turn it on. When enabled,
MarkSay listens on
127.0.0.1— the loopback interface, reachable only from your own Mac — and requires a bearer token it generates and you can rotate at any time. Nothing on your network or the internet can reach it. It never enables itself, and the menu always shows whether it is running. - What an assistant may see. While Agent Access is on, a connected assistant can list and read the documents you have open. If you unlock MarkSay Agent it can also edit them, and open files inside folders you have explicitly granted. That assistant is software you chose and connected; what it does with the text is governed by its own provider's policy, not ours.
- Folder access is consent-based. MarkSay is sandboxed and can only reach files you open or folders you grant in File ▸ Grant Folder Access…. Grants are stored locally, listed in File ▸ Authorized Folders…, and revocable at any time.
- Remote images are off by default. A Markdown document can reference an image on the web. Loading one tells that server you opened the document, when, and roughly from where — so MarkSay does not, unless you turn on View ▸ Load Remote Images. With it off there is no request at all. With it on, MarkSay fetches the bytes itself over HTTPS; the preview page never learns the address exists.
- Exports never reach the network. Exporting to HTML, PDF, or Word makes no network request whatsoever, and an exported file never carries a remote address — images already loaded are embedded, and anything else is left as its alt text with a note of what was omitted.
- Links you follow. Clicking a link in the preview opens it in your browser, which is a normal visit to that site.
- The preview is locked down. Page JavaScript is disabled and a strict content policy applies. The web content process has no access to your file system; MarkSay reads image bytes itself and passes them in.
- Trial and purchase. The 14-day Agent trial is recorded in your Mac's keychain and nowhere else. The purchase is handled by Apple through the Mac App Store — we never see your payment details, and Apple's privacy policy governs that transaction.
Because MarkSay collects no data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf.
